Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched with a vision to keep India clean. People find it very convenient to throw garbage here, there, everywhere.
But this Mission was not just to encourage people to stop littering here and there. It was initiated to encourage people to not only NOT litter but also pick all the litter around them.
We always have an excuse to cover our faults. Most common one being that there are no dustbins, so we are left with no choice but to throw the waste in open. Some would even question back by asking “we should carry the waste”. And  actually they are right. If a woman cannot find any dustbin to dump her kid’s used diaper, will she carry the stink with her?
It’s like the government doing its bit and us doing ours. If adequate dustbins are placed properly, then it is onto us to dump waste in it. Where Swachh Bharat Abhiyan fails is that it’s not providing the place to dump garbage.
This video from Mood Indigo IIT Bombay shows how careless people are when it comes to picking garbage. They can bend to pick a 100 Rs note, but not garbage.
A lesson learnt for the government, is it?
