Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, known for his work like Satya, Sarkar and Company that dealt with the underworld theme, is back in news.
No, the maverick RGV is not making a movie on the life of Yakub Memon. He is venting his ire at Tushar Gandhi, activist and Mahatma Gandhi’s great grandson, for opposing Yakub Memon’s execution on a news channel.
Gandhi was part of an initiative launched by some eminent citizens, including journalists, lawyers and activists, who were demanding a stay on Memon’s hanging based on a host of factors. Memon, accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, was hanged to death on Thursday morning at a Nagpur jail after Supreme Court rejected his mercy plea.
Tushar had said on the show, “This is nothing but judiciary-sanctioned murder and (it) must be abolished. I am opposed to death penalty because execution is like evil countering evil and two evils cannot make a good. It is a medieval, barbaric practice to bring the accused of a crime to justice.”
Varma wrote on Twitter:
If he heard Tushar Gandhi’s imbecilities on Yakub, Mahatma Gandhi himself wud hav not only slapped Tushar, but wud hav punched him in stomach — Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) July 29, 2015
He prefaced his comments on Gandhi and Memon with:
Sympathy of certain people on Memon is becos in his pics he looks normal like any of us whereas the dead 257 ppl are just a number
— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) July 29, 2015
I wish we can see pic of Memon along with pics of all murdered 257 people laid side by side..Only then his horrificness can be understood

Talking about Gandhi, the filmmaker wrote:
I so wish the Mahatma was alive to slap his great grandson Tushar for so foolishly misunderstanding the very concept of nonviolence — Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) July 29, 2015
Not satisfied with a mere slap, he added in the next tweet:
If Mahatma Gandhi would have seen his great grandson Tushar Gandhi on Times Now tonite he would have renounced Non violence and hanged him
— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) July 29, 2015
Seeing Tushar gandhi talk on Times now on Yakub am so glad he was not fighting British ..if so we would have been still under British — Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) July 29, 2015
Whether Tushar Gandhi is imbecile or retard or whatever,he for sure is a embarrassment..Am so glad Mahatma wasn’t here 2 see Times now today — Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) July 29, 2015
The director who has had face-offs with many other people due to his Twitter comments in the past, topped his tweets off with this:
Mahatma Gandhi would have put the country first against his imbecile great grandson and would have given all us Indians justice — Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) July 29, 2015
