Deepika Padukone and Homi Adjania’s ‘My Choice’ video has become the talk of the town, but for all the wrong reasons! The video has been receiving a lot of flak for being one-sided, taking the attention off the main point of focus.
So much for creativity….a male version of the video has been released on YouTube by Ankur Poddar.
The video shows different men and speaks about the choices men have. The video has similar appeal with black and white visuals and voiceover also has the same tone. The narrative, too, is same at some point. It stops at the “sex outside marriage” part and then the video cuts to a footage of a woman hitting a man and accusing him of adultery.
Okay, agreed that the point that needs to be hammered right now is that of equality and not gender sensitisation.
But let’s NOT ignore the reason why ‘Empower’ had to be made – there are centuries-old concepts and notions guarding the do’s and don’ts for women drawn up by men. Let’s NOT belittle the creative aspects of the video and come up with spoofs the likes of Ankur Poddar has come up with. Let’s NOT disrespect women – as that’s all Homi Adjania has tried to convey!
