TASTES GOOD:
Does the taste of milk turn you off? Good news. Almond milk doesn’t taste like cow’s milk at all.
Don’t worry, besides listing the good facts about almond milk, we will also tell you how to make it at home:
STEP 1: Boil water and switch off the flame when the water comes to a boil.
STEP 2: Rinse the almonds and add these to the boiled water. Cover with a lid and let the almonds blanch for 30-45 minutes. Blanching the almonds makes removing the peel easier. You can also soak the almonds overnight. But I find peeling soaked almonds cumbersome. The peels just come off easily. You can use unpeeled almonds too if you want, but I remove them as they irritate my throat when they are ground.
STEP 3: You can drain the water or alternatively, cool the water and use it to water your plants. Press the almond between your thumb and forefinger and the peel would comes off easily.
STEP 4: Now, add 3 cups of water in the blender along with the almonds. Blend till smooth.
STEP 5: Using a juice strainer/fine sieve/muslin/cheese cloth bag, strain the milk keeping a large bowl or pan below.
STEP 6: You will see the milk filtering down and the almond pulp on the strainer. Press the pulp with a wooden spatula or non-reactive metal spoon.
STEP 7: Now, take this pulp back into the blender and add 1 cup of water and blend again. This part is optional. You can just blend the almonds with 4 cups water and then strain the milk once.
STEP 8: Press with the spoon again so that all the milk is extracted from the pulp.
STEP 9: Fill the glass and sip your healthy drink.
