We, Indians, tend to forgive and forget too soon. Move over Team India, it’s time for IPL 2015!
Despite India’s debacle in the semifinal round of ICC World cup 2015, India has quickly moved away from it to focus more on the Indian Premier League 2015 that starts at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens next week with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders playing Mumbai Indians, if they do not boycott the IPL as they threaten now.
Let’s look at five controversies that made the IPL most-talked about besides cricket of course!
1. Spot-fixing claims
A sting operation carried out by a TV channel caught players taking bribe to spot-fix. Players were banned by BCCI from all forms of cricket. The sting operation also revealed that players were ready to negotiate outside the IPL system and the franchises were ready to give extra money under the table.
2. Australian Luke Pomersbach arrested for molesting a US citizen
Luke Pomersbach made his IPL debut for Kings XI Punjab. He made headlines not for his cricketing skills, but for his arrest by the Delhi Police for molesting a US woman of Indian origin.
3. King of Bollywood SRK’s fracas @Wankhede
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan was banned from entering Wankhede stadium by MCA. He was found arguing and fighting with stadium staff after a match between KKR and MI. Actor was also accused of being drunk.
4. Sacking of IPL boss Lalit Modi
Man behind IPL’s huge success Lalit Modi was sacked as the IPL commissioner for misappropriation of funds. The former IPL boss is currently in London.
5. From where it all started: Slap incident
The very first season of IPL and the very first controversy of IPL saw Sreesanth getting slapped by Harbhajan.
Hoping this year’s game too keeps us glued to our seats and proves to be a nerve-cracker!
