Premier Badminton League (PBL) on Saturday announced Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador for the event beginning on January 2!
Akshay will actively post his comments and updates on social media via his official Twitter handle. The superstar is a known fitness freak and his association will add glamour to the tournament.
“I have always believed in associating with sports and this League is yet another platform for me to showcase my support. Badminton has given us reasons to rejoice for years now and I am very excited to meet the young stars who have conquered many feats on the court,” said Akshay.
“For me, they are the true brand ambassadors to this beautiful and exciting game, I wish each good luck,” he added.
BAI President Akhilesh Das Gupta welcomes Akshay on board. “His association with the League is in line with our focus to create the required excitement. His presence will not only attract sports lovers but even encourage the players. We are sure we will witness a successful edition not only on the court but even off the court.”
The PBL will start in Mumbai with six franchises – Delhi Acers, Hyderabad Hunters, Bengaluru Top Guns, Chennai Smashers, Mumbai Rockets and Awadhe Warriors – competing for the top honour.
The two-week long event will witness the likes of Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu besides international stars such as Lee Chong Wei in action.
The opening match will be played between Awadhe Warriors and Mumbai Rockets in Mumbai.
