Chandigarh/Shimla, April 5:Â Rain and snowfall in parts of North India on Wednesday may have brought respite to people from hot weather conditions, but it has also left the wheat farmers worried.
Punjab and Haryana today received light rains, while it snowed at high peaks in Himachal. The showers have left wheat farmers worried as even a drizzle at this time of the season is considered harmful for the standing wheat crop, which is ready for harvest.

“Inclement weather is detrimental to ripened wheat and its continuation could lead to lower yield,” said Sital Singh, a Jalandhar-based farmer.Chandigarh also received rains this morning causing a dip in the maximum temperature.
A few places in Punjab, including Mohali, Ropar, Phagwara and Jalandhar also received light rains.Light showers were also reported in Panchkula, Ambala, Kalka and Yamunanagar in Haryana.The maximum temperature across Punjab and Haryana had been hovering 2 to 5 notches above normal limits for over a week.
In Himachal, rains and thunderstorm lashed several parts of the state. Lightening also damaged electronic gazettes in several households.Strong velocity winds swept Shimla and adjoining areas.
Tribal areas and higher hills of Himachal experienced fresh snowfall. Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti received 5 cm of snow.
