Manali, Sep 20: Kullu Deputy Commissioner Yunus Khan said Kullu district was ranked first in the recent ranking by the Central Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation for the cleanest district in the country under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He said the district was placed first along with 14 other districts of the country.
Last month, the district had made its place in the top 10 cleanest districts and now, it had moved to the top position, he said.The DC claimed that it was another feather in the cap of Kullu and efforts would continue to improve its cleanliness and hygiene.
He said the ranking was updated by the ministry from time to time after analysing the data related to various parameters and components of cleanliness. He added that Kullu had attained the first place in cleanliness in the state in last month’s ranking and now it was on the top in cleanliness in the country.
The DC said the Ministry had provided this ranking to Kullu district based on construction of toilets, solid and liquid waste management and all other standards of the Swachh Bharat Mission. He congratulated the residents of the district and said it was a matter of pride for the district and the state as well.
He said the feat was achieved with the efforts of the people and officers and employees of various departments. He appealed to the masses to continue maintaining cleanliness to retain the top place.The Deputy Commissioner said the participation of the common people in the district was being ensured to achieve long-term goals of cleanliness. He added that Kullu district was actively contributing in the road map that had been prepared to fulfill the concept of “Swachh Bharat” by 2019.
