Shimla, June 6: “Preserve nature so that it can be transferred to future generations like our ancestors passed it to us,” said Governor Acharya Devvrat while speaking at the World Environment Day function organised by the State Science, Technology and Environment Council in collaboration with the district administration at Gaiety Theatre on Monday.
Exhorting students to come forward for the protection of environment and contribute to making the campaign a grand success, he said over-consumption of natural resources had led to additional loss to the environment.
Stating that mental and spiritual pollution had emerged as a major problem in the present scenario, Devvrat emphasised the need to change the mindset and contribute in the campaign against social evils.
The Governor also relaunched the website of the State Science, Technology and Environment Council. He evinced keen interest in the exhibition on environment at the Gaiety Theatre.
Earlier, speaking at a cleanliness and plantation drive organised by the Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation at Kamla Nehru Hospital, he said even the Vedas mentioned about environment protection but unfortunately we did not follow their teachings.
He appealed to the people to participate in cleanliness drives and help making the environment cleaner. He also administered a pledge of cleanliness on the occasion.

Manali: World Environment Day was celebrated in the tourist town of Manali yesterday. Hundreds of students of Senior Secondary School, Manali, took out an awareness rally on the Mall road to create awareness and educate people to save the environment.

Kangra: World Environment Day was celebrated at Rait. Students of different schools and other institutes participated in an awareness rally which was flagged off by vice-chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Forest Corporation, KS Pathania. He said on this day, an annual campaign should be started to address the environmental issues like wastage of food, deforestation, increasing global warming, etc.

Shimla: A two-day “Connecting nature to people” programme was organised by the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board on the eve of World Environment Day. Highlighting the importance of the day, Additional Chief Secretary (Environment, Science & Technology) Tarun Kapoor laid emphasis on inculcating the habit of environment conservation.
