Shimla, July 20: Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has come under sharp criticism for his statements regarding the Kotkhai rape and murder case. The CM said in Mandi yesterday that such kind of incidents kept on happening in society. One of the supporters of Virbhadra Singh Chief Parliamentary Secretary Neeraj Bharti expressed displeasure over the CM’s statement on his Facebook post today. “I am not satisfied with government officials and the Chief Minister’s stand on the Kotkhai rape and murder case,” said Bharti.
The post went viral among bureaucrats, politicians and various other circles. Bharti had earlier also evoked controversies through his Facebook posts, but it is for the first time that he has criticised the CM. Senior Congress leader GS Bali, while talking to media persons, said the incident had brought a bad name to the state and every section of society should act responsibly. BJP MP from Kangra Shanta Kumar issued a statement criticising the government and the police for its role in the case.
“There is no high command in the Congress, otherwise Virbhadra Singh had been removed till now,” he said.BJP MP from Hamirpur Anurag Thakur said the CM was issuing insensitive statements in the case.“The statements issued by the CM are insulting. The people are getting restive and the government should immediately handover all documents in the case to the CBI so that a fair probe could be held,” he said.
Senior Congress leader Kishan Kapoor alleged that the CM was trying to protect some influential people in the case.“The anger of the people is spilling on to the streets against the present government. The CM should step down immediately,” he said. College students in Nurpur, Dharamsala, Kangra, Mandi, Dalhousie and Una took out protest march. Social activists have called for peace march for the victim at various places.“We have called a candlelight march for the victim and to show our support to the family,” said Varinder Choudhary, a social activist. The BJP has given a call for bandh in Dharamsala tomorrow to protest against the state government over the case.
