Shimla, June 10: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Telangana Palvai Govardhan Reddy, who was a member of the Parliamentary Committee for Chemicals and Fertilizers on a visit to Kullu and Manali, died in Kullu yesterday. He was 80. He was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member in 2012.
Yunus Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Kullu, said the parliamentary committee comprising 25 members arrived at Bhuntar airport this morning. Reddy complained of uneasiness upon his arrival. He was rushed to the Kullu hospital and was admitted to the trauma centre.
Kullu Chief Medical Officer Sushil Chander said a team of medical specialists provided him cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he suffered a cardiac arrest and could not be revived. He said Reddy was undergoing cardiac treatment from a premier medical institute in Hyderabad.
He said the parliamentary committee was scheduled to conduct various meetings in Kullu till June 12, but yesterday’s meetings were cancelled and the members of the committee will decide on their Kullu plan later.
Reddy remained a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly for five terms. He was also a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council for one term.
