Shimla, June 13: Government college teachers are up in arms against the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Shimla, for his alleged misbehaviour with an associate professor. They have accused him of not assigning poll duties as per the “position or protocol” and using “intemperate language”.
A senior Associate Professor Praveen Bhatia, who could not attend the rehearsal for the Shimla Municipal Corporation poll on June 8, was issued a show-cause notice and the DC allegedly misbehaved with the teacher when he met him, a Himachal Government College Teachers Association (HGCTA) release issued here today said.
The association said the behaviour of the DC was unbecoming of a senior bureaucrat and reflected his scant respect for teachers.“The guidelines that the duties should be assigned as per the position or protocol were violated and senior college teachers were asked to work under the supervision of junior officials,” said general secretary of the association RL Sharma.
Asserting that it was below the dignity of college teachers and also tantamount to contempt of court, a spokesman of the association appealed to the High Court to take suo motu notice of it and take necessary action to initiate contempt proceedings.
“It is like the DC made to work under the control of the SDM and if such a situation had risen in the bureaucracy, heavens would have fallen,” he quipped. “Teachers are not against any duties but their dignity should not be compromised,” the HGCTA spokesman rued.
