Joginder Nagar MLA Gulab Singh Thakur is the Bharatiya Janata Party leader. He is the son of late Shri Lal Singh. He was born on May 29, 1948 at Majharnu village in Joginder Nagar in Mandi district. He is a Graduate in Law from Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Constituency Represented

Joginder Nagar is a hill station and a nagar panchayat in Mandi district. Named after Raja Joginder Sen, Joginder Nagar is terminal point of 163 km long Kangra Valley Narrow gauge railhead. Joginder Nagar is the only town in Asia to have three hydro-electric power stations, and hence it is popularly known as The City of Powerhouses. The town packs options for sightseeing, picnicking, angling and adventure sports like paragliding and trekking. The town is known for three T’s namely Trolley, Trout and Train. In 2015, Joginder Nagar was declared the first free Wi-Fi city of Himachal Pradesh.

Political Standing

Gulab Singh Thakur is the Joginder Nagar MLA. He was first elected to State Legislative Assembly in 1977 on Janata Party ticket. He joined Indian National Congress in 1980. He was re-elected to the Assembly in 1982 (Independent), 1990, 1993, 1998 as Congress Party nominee and in December, 2007 as Bhartiya Janata Party nominee. He was elected to the State Legislative Assembly for a seventh term in 2012. He won by a margin of 5916 votes from Thakur Surender Pal of Congress.
