Shimla, June 16: Voters have kept the Congress, BJP and CPM guessing as there are speculations that it could be a hung House as no party may be able to cross the magic number of 23 in the SMC polls. The fate of 126 candidates remained sealed in the electronic voting machines and the results are expected to be out by 10 am.
Politicians and their workers remained active contacting and manipulating voters for their candidates through the day, but the voters seemed to have given more preference to their individual choices. This election is fought on non-party symbols. While BJP has fielded 34 candidates, the Congress has backed 28 candidates.
The CPM has fielded 27 candidates, including seven being backed with the joint front. It could be a hung house as no party would cross the 23 mark to capture Town Hall, said analysts here. The polling percentage hovered around 60 per cent this time, 4 per cent down from the 2012 MC elections.
It showed that there was no wave for any party as the BJP had tried to create one, commented a political analyst here. The social media was rife with talks of the Congress and the BJP leading the tally but no one was giving a clear mandate to any political party.
