Shimla, June 21: Former Chief Minister PK Dhumal today said that CM Virbhadra Singh should resign and seek a fresh mandate after Shimla MC results.Talking to mediapersons following the BJP’s victory procession after its candidates were elected for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Dhumal said, “The Congress-led government has lost the moral right to stay in power.
The party suffered defeat in 59 Assembly segments in last Lok Sabha elections, followed by losses in Sujanpur and Bhoranj by-elections and now MC elections. The BJP secured a lead of 655 votes in Shimla rural constituency, which proves that the CM has lost the mandate to govern.
”The press conference was attended by state BJP president Satpal Satti, Rajiv Bindal, Suresh Bhardwaj, Chopal MLA Balbir Verma and the newly-elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor, along with councillors.Dhumal blamed poor governance for jaundice outbreak and failure to start the Kol Dam Water Scheme for last four years.
Replaying to a query that BJP-rebel Rakesh Kumar Sharma was made the Deputy Mayor while ignoring other candidates, Dhumal quipped, “It was ‘ghar wapsi’ of a BJP worker and there should be no problem for any one if the party has made him Deputy Mayor.” He also said that it would have been difficult for the wrest the top posts without the support of the Independent candidate.
