Shimla, May 31: The CBI has arrested Tilak Raj Sharma, Joint Director, Department of Industries, Baddi, and Ashok Rana while demanding and accepting an alleged bribe of Rs 5 lakh from a complainant. The agency has registered a case under section 120-B of the IPC and Section VII of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the accused.
It was alleged that the complainant, a Chartered Accountant and Consultant to a private pharma firm based at Baddi, had submitted a file of the firm in the office of Joint Director, Department of Industries, SWCA, Baddi for claiming 15 per cent capital investment subsidy on the purchase of new machinery installed in the factory, the CBI spokesperson said.
It was further alleged in the complaint that the Joint Director and another person were demanding bribe of Rs 10 lakh for passing the claim of Rs 50 lakh of the firm. On the request of the complainant, it was agreed to accept Rs 5 lakh as first instalment. The CBI laid a trap at Chandigarh where the accused were caught while demanding and accepting an alleged bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
Search was conducted at the residence of the accused in Sector 19-C, Chandigarh which led to recovery of Rs 38,960 (approx), US dollars and euros, 170 gm gold, 350 gm silver, papers pertaining to LIC policies and bank locker keys. Search of the office premises of the accused is underway.
