Probably the most famous modern instance of a gay actor playing a straight role is Harris’ portrayal of the womanizing Barney Stinson on “How I Met Your Mother.” Stinson is not only a straight character, but is an aggressively straight one, who picks up women with charm and ease, nearly in every episode. He is in a long-term relationship with actor David Burtka and has two beautiful twins, Gideon Scott and Harper Grace, born on October 12, 2010.
2. Jim Parsons, ‘The Big Bang Theory’
Jim Parsons has played several socially awkward heterosexual characters, including Sheldon Cooper on “The Big Bang Theory,” who has been in a relationship with Amy Farrah Fowler for several seasons. He has been in a relationship with his partner, Todd Spiewak for over 10 years.
3. Ellen Page, ‘Juno’
Ellen Page came out in 2014 at a youth event for the Human Rights Campaign. She has played several straight characters, including a pregnant teenager in the title role of the 2007 film Juno.
4. Raven Symone, ‘That’s So Raven’
Yep it’s true, the Disney girl who got her first start on ‘The Cosby Show’ and became a worldwide star for her work on ‘That’s So Raven’ is gay. She’s also in a relationship with America’s Next Top Model contestant AzMarie Livingston.
5. Cynthia Nixon, ‘Sex And The City’
Cynthia Nixon is famous for playing Miranda, the intellectual lawyer on Sex and the City. In real life, she married her partner Christine Marinoni in 2012.
6. Matt Bomer, ‘White Collar’
Actor Matt Bomer publicly acknowledged that he was gay in 2012, and he has three sons with his partner Simon Halls. Bomer has played several straight characters including Neal Caffrey on “White Collar.”
7. Alan Cumming, ‘The Good Wife’
He might play a straight man on “The Good Wife” but he has been married twice: first to Hilary Lyon and currently to graphic artist Grant Shaffer. They split their time between New York and Los Angeles with their two dogs, Honey and Leon.
8. Anthony Perkins, ‘Psycho’
He played Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho and its sequels. He married the actress Berry Berenson, but had relationships with men and died from AIDS-related causes in 1992.
