Papa Don’t Preach! Freedom Has To Be Won From Parents!

Today, teenagers want more freedom than their parents are ready to give.

This need and give imbalance could be due to two reasons: One, your parents don’t think you can handle it or Two, they might be uncomfortable with the idea of you having grown up.

I believe that teenagers who have proven themselves capable of making good decisions should be allowed more freedom. Parents must learn to let go and accept their child’s growing independence with full guidance and support.

So if you think you should be allowed to make your own choices and decisions, then prove your worth to your parents in these parameters….

Build your trust in your family

For every teen, this is the key point. Always be home when you are supposed to. If you respect the rules set by your parents, they are all likely to give you more independence.

Share and connect with your parents

Tell your parents what’s going on in your life in a way they can understand. They will be more inclined to see things your way if they understand your perspective as a person.

Be responsible and mature

Take care of yourself and be responsible. Don’t argue with your parents for you personal space, but be mature enough to accept the situation.

Responsible

Keep calm and have patience

If your parents are refusing something, accept their decision. Getting angry or upset will not help the situation. Continue your good behavior. Now that they know how you feel, they may take more notice and give you your freedom.

Try to avoid ‘rash’ people

Many teens nowadays like to hang out, party and enjoy drinks at night. And it is hard for parents to be comforted by this fact. They constantly worry that you are out with the right crowd. If your parents don’t like the way your friends look or dress, bring your friends home so your parents can see how awesome and nice they are.
