No, we are not talking of the Euro rail. India too boasts of some of the finest luxury trains in the world. And let us warn you that these luxurious escapades don’t come cheap. Do book in advance as their seats fill up very soon. We are not talking of any ordinary trains. Some of them have beaten the likes of Orient Express and won many awards.
1. Palace on Wheels
This is the pioneer luxury train of India. The train has carriages that date back to the Nizam period. You get to see the royal heritage of Rajasthan up close and also visit the Taj. It has been voted the fourth best luxury train on this planet.
2. Maharajas’ Express
It is the only train all of Asia to have won the accolade of the World’s Leading Luxury Train. The accommodation and the staff make you feel like a Prince and you get to see many sates of India. At select destinations you can also participate in activities that the Maharajas used to do.
3. Deccan Odyssey
This train is run by the Maharashtra Tourism. You get to enjoy the Western Ghats and the Konkan Coast for a full one week. And that’s not all. You also get to sunbathe in Goa and see the Ajanta and Ellora. And it has a spa too!!
4. The Golden Chariot
The train runs through South India. It covers the states of Karnataka, Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu. You get a big dose of culture, nature and religious destinations on this train. It offers you beaches, temples, and heritage sites too.
