Mahender Singh is the Dharampur MLA. He is associated with Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the son of late Shri Bali Ram. He was born on 22nd February 1950 at Chanjyar (Richhli), Distt. Mandi. He is married to Smt. Parmila Devi.
Constituency Represented
Dharampur is a town located in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh on the Chandigarh-Shimla Highway. It is about 65 km from Shimla and 15 km from Kasauli on the National Highway-22. It is also connected by Kalka-Shimla Railway Line through the world famous toy train. It houses the first TB Sanatorium in North India, CRPF camp on NH-22 on Shimla road. It is also connected to Kalka through toy train.
Political Standing
Mahender Singh was elected to State Legislative Assembly in February 1990 as an Independent. He was elected again in 1993 as Congress candidate, in 1998 on HVC ticket, in 2003 as Lok Tantrik Morcha (H.P.) candidate and in 2007 on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. Mahender Singh has been recommended for entry into the Guinness Book of World Record for being elected to the Assembly in five consecutive elections, on five different election symbols. Remained Vice President, HVC, 1997-2002; President, HP Lok Tantrik Morcha, 2003-04; Minister of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, PWD, and Excise & Taxation during 1998 to December 4, 2000; and Chairman, Estimates Committee and Member of various House Committees before being appointed Transport Minister on 9 July, 2009 and remained such till December 2012. Again elected to the State Legislative Assembly for the sixth time in 2012. He won by a margin of 1041 votes. Chander Shekhar of Congress was the trailing candidate.
