Shimla, June 8: The Himachal Road Transport Corporation resumed its Delhi-Leh bus service from Wednesday which will continue till October.
After the Border Roads Organization cleared snow on the Manali-Leh road, the district administration of Lahaul-Spiti gave nod to the HTRC authorities to resume its bus service.
The arduous 1045-km journey from Delhi-Leh in the Ladakh division takes more than 30 hours. The route, which leads through four mountain passes, remains snowbound from October to June.
The bus crosses four mountain passes in Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir — Rohtang Pass (13,050 ft), Baralacha Pass (16,020 ft), Lachungla Pass (16,620 ft) and Tanglangla Pass (17,480 ft).
Sub Divisional Magistrate Sunny Sharma flagged off the bus service from Keylong.HRTC Regional Manager, Keylong, Mangal Menapa said with the start of the bus service, tourists would be able to enjoy journey via Manali to Leh in Rs 1,380.
The bus will make an overnight halt at Keylong to leave at 5 am the next morning. Last year, the bus service was stopped in September due to early snowfall in the region.
The schedule
- The bus will start from Delhi at 2:30pm, reach Chandigarh Sec 43 at 8:30pm, Kullu at 5:30 am and Keylong at 1 pm, where it will stop overnight and then start from Keylong at 5am
- From Leh, the bus will start at 5 am, reach Keylong at 7 pm and stop overnight. It will then start from Keylong at 6:30 am and reach Delhi at 3:30 am
Deluxe bus from Manali to Leh from July 1
The HP Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) will also launch its 35-seater deluxe bus from Manali to Leh Ladakh from July 1 and tourists can book tickets online. Transport officer, Manali, Roop Lal Thakur said the one way ticket will cost Rs 2,900 between Manali and Leh-Ladakh. There would be a night halt at Keylong and the HPTDC will provide lodging facility to tourists, including dinner, during the night stay.
