Shimla, Aug 10: At least 20 women were injured as a house collapsed while they were condoling a death in a family at Sudhed village of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. A portion of the house where all females were sitting collapsed leaving all of them injured; seven out of them were serious. The portion which collapsed was a mud structure. The house which collapsed belongs to a Vinod Kumar and villagers had gathered at his home to console the death of his family member.
No male member was injured in this incident. As chief minister Virbhadra Singh is on a tour to this area, the officials were busy and failed to turn up in time which peeved the villagers. Victims rued that for two hours, none of the officials came to attend the injured. All the females were shifted to the civil hospital in the town.
Confirming the incident, Shravan Manta, sub-divisional magistrate, said that out of total 20 females, seven received serious injuries, but not fatal. “All the females were injured who were consoling the bereaved family. They were shifted to local hospital and treatment was under way,” he said. It was the inner portion of the house which collapsed and all females were sitting inside the building.
The administration paid Rs 90,000 as relief to all the victims out of which 10,000 was paid to the house owner.
