Shimla, Aug 10: The torrential rain, lashed the area in the past 48 hours, has triggered landslides in Nurpur, damaging water supply schemes in the town on Wednesday.The main pipeline of two out of three schemes damaged last evening. Residents of the town did not get piped water this morning and the supply to the Civil Hospital also remained suspended. Around 100 metre of main water supply line, connecting the Civil Hospital, damaged due to landslides.
Executive Engineer, Irrigation-cum-Public Health (IPH) subdivision, Nurpur, Anil Kumar, who supervised the restoration work, told The Tribune that the department workforce had been pressed into service to repair the damaged supply line since early morning. He also said heavy rain and landslides had damaged 40 water supply and lift irrigation schemes in Nurpur.
Heavy rain has damaged Bachat Bhavan link road connecting Pathankot-Mandi highway with Nurpur. The road has been closed for heavy vehicles. The SDM has directed the PWD to display warning boards on both sides of the damaged road. The Dhangu-Mazra road linking airforce station in Indora near Pathankot has also been washed away and the administration closed it. A number of houses have also damaged at Jachh, Nurpur, Baldoon and Khanni in the area.
