Here are the weird facts about our very own Incredible India:
1. Jatinga – The suicide point for birds
This valley in Assam is known for bird suicides. Although the birds do not commit suicide and are actually killed, the myth of the suicides has spread far and wide among common people.
2. Caesarian surgery performed by a 15-year-old Tamil boy to enter the Guinness Records
In 2007, a 15-year-old Tamil boy named Dhileepan Raj performed caesarian operation under the supervision of his doctor parents. All this to create a record. The parents were arrested and the boy also surrendered later on.
3. Krishna’s butterball is a huge rock balanced on a slippery slope in Mahabalipuram. No one knows why it doesn’t slip down!
In Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna had an insatiable appetite for butter and as a child, would often sneak a handful from his mother’s butter jar. Situated on a hill slope near the Ganesh Ratha, this massive natural rock boulder is attributed to a bolus of butter the young Krishna would steal.
4. Rolls Royce as a waste-collecting vehicle
A fleet of Rolls Royce was used for cleaning and dumping the city’s waste as the King Jai Singh of Alwar was insulted by the salesman at London Rolls Royce showroom. He stopped after the company tendered an apology.
5. Super long connecting wires
Bandra Worli Sealink, an 8-lane, cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete viaduct approaches, has steel wires which measure equal to earth’s circumference.
6. Haunted courtroom
At Karkardooma District Court in Delhi, strange things were happening like books were disappearing, noises were heard. Ultimately, the bar association decided to install CCTVs but was not able to ‘catch’ anything on the camera though it showed the computers were switched on.
7. A record for maximum number of accounts opened in a scheme
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has entered the Guinness Book of World Records. 11.5 crore bank accounts were opened, which was way beyond the target of 10 crore.
8. A temple dedicated to Mother India
The Bharat Mata temple in Varanasi is dedicated to Mother India. This temple got inaugurated in 1936 by Mahatma Gandhi. It pays respect to everyone who contributed for the country.
