Sohan Lal Thakur is the Sundernagar MLA. He is associated with Indian National Congress. He is son of late Shri Pohlo Ram. He was born at Village Khurahal, Distt. Mandi on 18th August 1958. He is a Post Graduate and holds a Diploma in German language. He is married to Smt. Sheela Thakur.
Constituency Represented
Sunder Nagar is a municipal council in Mandi district. Formerly it was a princely state, known as Suket. Sundernagar (also spelt as Sundarnagar) used to be the capital of Suket State and is hardly 22-24 km from Mandi towards Shimla. The waters of Beas-Sutlej Project have given it a man-made lake. The temple of Mahamaya and Sukhdev Vatika on the nearby hill are other attractions. The beautiful town of Sundernagar is known for walks amidst towering trees. The town is famous for its temples with the Mahamaya Temple being the most prominent among them. Sukhdev Vatika is a beautiful garden here. It is also home to Asia’s biggest Hydel Project – the Beas-Sutlej hydro-electric project, irrigating nearly one-fourth of the northern plains of India. This has brought unprecedented prosperity to Sudernagar. The Beas-Sutlej link colony is the biggest colony in Himachal Pradesh.
Political Standing
Sohan Lal Thakur was elected as MLA from this Vidhan Sabha seat in the elections of 2012. He won by a margin of 8990 votes. Roop Singh an Independent was the trailing candidate.
