The film ‘Sholay’ was released on 15th August, 1975 and last month it celebrated 40 years of its success.
Directed by Ramesh Sippy, the film starred Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra in lead roles and their respective wives, Jaya Bachchan and Hema Malini.
Sholay is considered a classic and one of the best Indian films. It was ranked first in the British Film Institute’s 2002 poll of “Top 10 Indian Films” of all time. In 2005, the judges of the 50th annual Filmfare Awards named it the Best Film of 50 Years.
We all have seen the movie and gone through with its highs and lows. We felt bad when Gabbar chopped off Thakur’s arms and when Jai died at Gabbar’s hands. And, we all clapped or at least felt glad that Gabbar was finally caught and handed over to the police in the end.
What if Khurki tells you that the real end was different. What if we tell you that Gabbar was originally supposed to be killed at the hands, oops sorry nailed under the feet of Thakur?
Yep, this is true. As it was the emergency period, the end was changed due to the government pressure. So what we saw wasn’t how it was intended to be.
