The actor has been given a clean chit by the Maharashtra government. Dutt had reached jail two days late while he was on parole but an inquiry concluded that this was due to lapses on part of the jail administration to take a decision. Dutt will not be penalised for arriving late at the jail.
Dutt was given a five-year prison sentence in March 2013, stemming from his reported involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts. While he was acquitted of terrorism charges under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act, he was convicted on charges of illegal possession of arms.
Dutt served 18 months in jail prior to conviction; after multiple appeals, his original sentence was upheld in 2013, and he was ordered to undergo a remaining 42 months of imprisonment.
It is indeed a Happy New Year for 56-year-old actor Sanjay Dutt, who is set to come out of jail on February 27.
