Morgan Freeman’s granddaughter, 33-year-old E’Dena Hines, was stabbed to death just before 3 AM on 16th August. Her grandmother was Morgan Freeman’s first wife.
A 30-year-old man who police said was Hines’ boyfriend was taken into custody and hospitalised for a psychological evaluation. Her boyfriend had allegedly yelled: “Get out devils! I cast you out devils, in the name of Jesus Christ. I cast you out!” as he carried out the attack, witnesses told the cops.
Police reportedly responded to a call around 3 am and found Hines in the street in front of her apartment on West 162nd Street. She was taken to Harlem Hospital and later pronounced dead.
“The world will never know her artistry in talent, and how much she had to offer,” Morgan Freeman said in a statement. “Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
E’Dena is technically Morgan’s step-granddaughter through his first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw. He later married Myrna Colley Lee, but the pair divorced in 2010. The longtime actor previously had to deny “defamatory fabrications,” as Morgan put it, that he was either planning to marry E’Dena or had been in a relationship with her.
