India’s 15-year-long wait for the Miss Universe just got a little longer. Urvashi Rautela, who shouldered the responsibility this year, was out before the final 15. Nevertheless, the Indian beauty — who is said to have won the maximum number of beauty titles amid her peers — did have a great run-up to the finals.
But what happened at this year’s Miss Universe pageant has never ever happened in the history of this most coveted title. The anchor Steve Harvey would dread the error he made to his grave!
The faux pas was so huge that a contestant enjoyed the glory of wearing the crown for a little more than two minutes. Just as the feeling sank in, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo was stripped of the crown.
Watch how the slip between the cup and the lip happened:
And an apology was warranted:
I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.

Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake.

I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing.

Harvey’s mistake is not the first time the wrong woman has been named the winner of a high-profile beauty pageant. In 2010 during a live television broadcast, Australian host Sarah Murdoch read out the wrong name in the finale of Australia’s Next Top Model.
Finally, the real winner is anointed:
To err is human after all!
