The outbreak of jaundice last year had claimed 32 lives and a large number of people were taken ill due to negligence of the government, he added. The tactics of the Congress and the CPM to get the polls postponed exposed these parties proving that they were afraid of defeat in the polls. It was intriguing and a matter of grave concern that the State Election Commissioner, holding a constitutional post, also became instrumental in deferring the polls, Dhumal said.

Promising clean water, parking spaces and development of satellite town to decongest Shimla, the BJP leader said all the development works like construction of parking and augmentation of water supply scheme were initiated by the previous BJP government and the track record of the Congress and the CPM, which controlled the SMC for 31 years was dismal. The matter regarding construction of satellite townships, parking lots and roads and other issues had been discussed with Union Minister for Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and the BJP, if voted to power, will take effective measures in this regard, he said.

Dhumal held a road show in Lower Bazar and held meetings in Krishnanagar, Tutu and Dhalli in favour of the BJP-backed candidates Naveen Sood, Bitto Pana, Vivek Sharma, Shivraj Bharadwaj and Kamlesh. He campaigned for Kimi Sood in Benmour ward.State BJP president Satpal Singh Satti also campaigned in favour of the BJP candidates in Boileauganj, Summer Hill, Kaithu, Annadale and Nabha wards.

Demands CBI probe into forest guuard’s deathLaunching a blistering attack on the government for shielding forest mafia, former Chief Minister P K Dhumal today demanded a CBI probe into gruesome murder of forest guard Hoshiar Singh in Karsog forest range and alleged that the forest department officials were apprehending threat to life from “emboldened mafia”.

“A departmental enquiry into the murder of the forest guard will not do as the culprits are allegedly enjoying protection from politicians. A CBI enquiry should be ordered to restore the trust of people and instill confidence among the forest staff”, he said while talking to media persons here.
