High altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday experienced fresh snowfall while Shimla and other plains were lashed by rains, resulting in considerable drop in the mercury.The snowfall preceded rains, which lashed wide parts of the state, prompting people to take out woolens, which they had started discarding over the past couple of days due to improvement in the day temperature.
The MeT predicted widespread rain and snow at many places till weekend under the influence of Western Disturbance, which hit the region on Tuesday and expected to remain active till March 13.The local MeT office issued a warning of thunder squall and hail and heavy rains at isolated places in lower and mid hills and heavy rains or snowfall in higher reaches on March 9 in the state.It also warned of thunder squall and hail at isolated places today and on March 10 and also predicted rains and thundershowers at many places and rains and snow at some places in higher hills for six days from today.Kufri, Narkanda and Khara Pathar in Shimla district and high altitude tribal areas, including Rohtang Pass and adjoining areas, Kalpa and Manali, received snow.
