Shimla, June 7: All 154 nominations filed by candidates in 34 wards of the Shimla Municipal Corporation elections were scrutinised on Tuesday and found to be in order.
All forms have been scrutinised and none is rejected, said Deputy Commissioner Rohan Chand Thakur, adding that the last date of withdrawal was June 8. As many as 38 candidates had filed nominations on the first two days while 116 on the last day (June 5).
About 50 per cent (17) wards have been reserved for women, including three for Scheduled Caste women, while three are reserved for SC men and the post of Mayor is reserved for SC woman.
Eight of the former councillors got ticket for their family members and former mayor of the SMC Jaini Prem is among the candidates in the fray while eight sitting councillors are contesting elections.
The elections are not being held on party symbols and the returning officer will allot symbols on his own after withdrawal on June 8.
The poll code has come into force in the town while carrying of arms or any other instruments which can be used as weapon has been banned in till the election process is over.
