Shimla, June 27: Seven persons, including four women, were killed while five others sustained serious injuries when Balero (HR 71 A 3993) they were travelling in rolled 200 m deep into a gorge between Antrawlee and Guma, near Nerwa in Shimla district, 140 km from here, late last night. The passengers of the ill-fated vehicle hailed from Shillai in Sirmaur district and were returning after paying obeisance at the Churdhar shrine when the tragedy struck.
Sources said Kapil (27) lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve which proved fatal. The deceased were identified as Sandhi Devi (43), Sushma (30), Nisha (25), Ravina (21), Kailash (22), Gulab Singh (41) and Shivani (15), Deputy Commissioner, Shimla Rohan Chand Thakur said. The police personnel rushed to the spot after the news of the accident broke out and were able to fish out all the seven bodies.
The injured persons were rushed to civil hospital at Nerwa and later referred to the IGMC, Shimla. The injured persons were Kapil, Kalyan Singh, Dimple, Sakshi and Raveena. An immediate relief of Rs 50,000 has been given to the families of the deceased and Rs 5,000 to the injured. A case has been registered and investigations are underway, police sources said.
