Shimla, Aug 17: In a shocking incident, a government school teacher posted in a Sundarnagar, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh school allegedly tried to molest a student. Police sources told India Today that the accused teacher is absconding ever since the incident.
The school teacher has been identified as Shrawan Kumar, who taught history to the victim, a class 12 student who in her complaint to the police said that the accused teacher had called her at his home on August 7 and tried to molest her.
Shrawan Kumar also threatened the girl not to speak about it and had even offered her Rs 3,000 besides and a mobile phone. The student however, managed to escape and narrated the incident to the school Principal Parmanand in the presence of a classmate. Her complaint fell on deaf ears as the school Principal rather than taking any action against the accused teacher tried to snub the victim.
The victim finally told her parents who later lodged a police complaint. Acting on the victim’s complaint, the Sundarnagar Police booked the accused teacher under section 354A of the Indian Penal Code.
“We have registered a case against the accused Shrawan Kumar , who is a resident of Khatarwadi,Chambi area. He is absconding after the incident. The investigation is on and he will be arrested soon,” DSP, Sundarnagar, Taranjeet Singh said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director Education, Mandi Ashok Sharma has placed the teacher under suspension and the school principal has been summoned to give an explanation .The family members have also demanded action against the school principal who did not report the matter to the police despite having received complaint from the victim.
This is a second case within last 20 days when a government school teacher tried to outrage the modesty of his student in Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier on July 26, a science teacher posted at Government High School Tissa, Chamba was arrested on charges of molesting a student and threatening her.
