Shimla, July 4: Even as the BJP mounted pressure on Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to resign following court’s refusal to quash the FIR registered against him by the Enforcement Directorate, Virbhadra said he had been implicated in false cases but ultimately truth will prevail.“It is high time the Chief Minister tender his resignation on moral grounds as practically all his legal options are getting exhausted,” remarked Leader of Opposition and former CM PK Dhumal.
He said the people of the state want a corruption-free efficient government whose only focus is development and welfare of the people of the state.Other senior leaders, including Union Health Minister JP Nadda, former CM and Kangra Lok Sabha MP Shanta Kumar, state BJP president Satpal Singh Satti and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur said Virbhadra should not disgrace the dignity of the chair of CM.
“The CM is out on bail as he and his family faces serious allegations in cases filed by the CBI, Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax in various courts of law,” they remarked. The BJP leaders said it appeared that the only purpose that was being served with Virbhadra being the CM was to save his chair. “His continuation in office is an insult and disrespect to the mandate given by the people so he must step down on moral grounds,” they demanded.
The BJP leaders said the Chief Minister was not just running out of legal options but he had also lost the trust and faith of the people of the state. “The results of the Lok Sabha polls where Congress lost all four seats, followed by humiliating defeat in the Bhoranj by-poll and now the Shimla Municipal Corporation defeat has made it amply clear that Congress despite being in power has lost the trust of the people,” they remarked.
