Shimla May, 20: “Our mission is not only to win 60 plus seats in the 68-member Assembly but to break the tradition of change in government after every five years”, said newly appointed BJP in charge of the state Mangal Pandey while speaking during his maiden visit to hill state.

Setting the agenda for the party cadres he said “I have been sent here to ensure that the BJP wins the elections and continues its winning spree for another two terms”, adding that winds of change were blowing in favour of the BJP and political atmosphere was conducive for landslide victory.

The focus would be on strengthening the party at all 7,479 booths, increasing the vote bank and vote percentage and reaching out to the people with the policies, programmes and achievements of the NDA government, he stressed.

Parrying queries on leadership issue in the state, Pandey said that “It is too early to comment on these issues as I have just arrived in the state and after achieving Congress mukt Bharat our focus would be on BJP yukt Bharat”.

Starting his visit with a blistering attack on the state government, Pandey said that “Congress and corruption” have become synonymous and the party must be rooted out. Development policies and welfare programmes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially the schemes for the poor, were not being implemented by the state.

The BJP would go to masses with the development plank as every resident of Himachal wants development, he added. Earlier addressing the party workers, Pandey gave a clarion call to achieve 60 plus mission and throw out the corrupt Congress government. Exhorting the party workers to work hard to ensure victory of the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections, he said, “Do not look at me as an in charge.

I am just a party worker like you all. I started as a booth in charge and rose to this level.“Be at ease as you can share anything with me as we have to work as a team”, he said and added, “I expect myself to work hard to put BJP on a strong footing.

My expectations from the party workers are no different”.Speaking at the Swagat Samarow, Leader of the Opposition PK Dhumal said in the last Lok Sabha elections the BJP was in lead in 59 out of the 68 Assembly constituencies and history would be scripted this time.

“We are hopeful that appointment of Mangal Pandey as in charge would be Mangalmaya (auspicious) for the BJP”, he added.State BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti said that during the last parliamentaray elections, the vote percentage of the BJP (53.8 percent) was the maximum in the country.

“This time we would break all records. The target has been scaled up from 50 plus to 60 plus seats after the mammoth rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 27 last and the BJP cadre is excited and enthusiastic and feels that winning more than 60 seats would is possible”, he added.
