Kullu, Sep 11: To ensure adequate security arrangements during the week-long Kullu Dasehra festival, the district police will keep close vigil over offenders via closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) which will be put up at key locations in the town. According to official sources, the police will set up 50 CCTV cameras to keep an eye on miscreants and these cameras will be monitored by a police official 24 hours from one centre that will be set up on the SP office premises.

The district police authorities have floated a tender for the purpose and focus wil be on installing high quality CCTV camera in the town and remove the existing one, which have been defunct since long.Talking to The Tribune here, Shalini Agnihotri, Superintendent of Police, Kullu, said, “To keep vigil on offenders during Dasehra, we will set up 50 CCTV cameras at key locations of the town, where movement of the people remains high.

”The SP stated, “The security of people is our first priority and to maintain law and order during an event, adequate arrangements will be made well in time.”The Kullu SP has asked for 1,500 additional police personnel. She said 250 police personnel of the district would also be deployed during Dasehra for security purposes.“To deal with the traffic menace, a strategy will be made to avoid traffic chaos, because during this event, the Kullu experiences heavy rush of vehicles,” she remarked.

In reply to a query, the SP stated that she would be mulling setting up temporary barriers at Manikaran, Gadsa, Shadabai, Bajaura and a few other key routes to check the movement of vehicles to curb drug trade. During Dasehra, the drug mafia becomes active and transport their produce out of the district as the police remain busy maintaining law and order and providing security arrangements for the VVIPs’ movement in the district. Kullu Dasehra will commence from September 30, which will continue till October 6 in the district.
