Chintpurni MLA is Kuldip Kumar Dhiman of the Congress. He is son of Shri Badri Dass Dhiman. He was born on 12th April, 1950. He graduated from DAV College, Hoshiarpur. He is married to Smt. Shashi Bala.
Constituency Represented
Chintpurni is a major pilgrimage center and one of the Shakti Peeths in India. The Chintpurni shakti peeth (Chhinnamastika shakti peeth) is located in Una district of the state, surrounded by the western Himalayas in the north and east in the smaller Shiwalik (or Shivalik) range bordering Punjab. The Chintpurni Shakti Peeth houses the temple of Chinnamastika Devi or Chinnamasta Devi. Chhinnamasta or Chinnamastika temple is one of the 7 major and 51 total Shakti Peethas. Here, Chhinnamasta is interpreted as the severed-headed one as well as the foreheaded-one.
Political Standing
He has been the member of District Congress Committee, Una, since 1992. He got elected to State Assembly first in 1993 and was re-elected in 1998 and 2003. He was Deputy Speaker from 16 December 1993 to 17 October 1995, and was inducted into the Council of Ministers as Minister of State for Co-operation (with Independent Charge) and Higher Education on October 18, 1995 and remained at the post up to 24 December 1997. He was the Minister for Co-operation (at Cabinet Rank) from March 6, 2003 and re-designated Industries Minister on August 8, 2004 along with the portfolio of Co-operation Department. He also remained President of HPPCC from 24 November 2004 to 25 July 2005. He won by a margin of 438 votes. Balbir Singh of BJP was the trailing candidate.
